Monthly Port Congestion Report – China

Stay ahead of port congestion with our monthly report on situation in China.
Port Congestion Report – China

Ports across China have experienced negligible congestion over September and October. The rise in risks of a global recession could lead to a further decline in activity in these ports, as western buyers and shippers become more cautious about the outlook for Chinese exports.

Status Of Port Congestion In China

In this report, we examine the container vessel situation in Chinese ports over the past two months.

Vessel Delay (Waiting time at anchorage)

Compared to September, Chinese ports saw relatively little change in congestion levels in October. Major ports across China experienced little to no vessel delay, with the majority of them having a median vessel delay of less than an hour.

Vessel Dwell Time (Port Stay)

The vessel dwell time can be defined as the time a ship spends at the port securing the vessel, discharging or loading cargo, and other activities.

Despite the low vessel delay, there haven't been any significant changes in vessel dwell times in October as compared to September.

For the first time in nearly two years, China's export growth fell in October as risks of a global recession increased. Consequently, Chinese ports might continue to see a decrease in port activity as western demand for Chinese exports wanes.
