After a turbulent 2022, European ports are finally seeing stability when it comes to port congestion. Ports across Europe have experienced negligible congestion over September and October. With the rise in risks of a global recession and slowing global demand, we can expect European ports to maintain lower levels of port congestion over the coming months.
Status Of Port Congestion In Europe
In this report, we examine the container vessel situation in European ports over the past two months.
Vessel Delay (Waiting time at anchorage)
Waiting time at anchorage can be defined as the amount of time a vessel spends at the anchorage before entering the port.
Vessel Dwell Time (Port Stay)
The vessel dwell time can be defined as the time a vessel spends at the port securing the vessel, discharging or loading cargo, and other activities.
October was a month of stability for most European ports in terms of port congestion. Despite the stability in the container shipping industry, the European supply chain is still seeing its fair share of disruption with port strikes being one of them, the most recent of which was in Antwerp on 9 November.
