On-Carriage

On-Carriage

On-Carriage refers to the inland transportation of cargo from a port to its final destination, typically by truck or rail, following the arrival of goods by sea.

On-carriage refers to the inland movement that occurs after a container has been discharged at a discharge port. This stage of the shipping process is crucial for ensuring the seamless delivery of cargo to its ultimate consignee.

On-carriage can involve various modes of transportation, such as trucking or rail, depending on the specific logistics plan. This movement may take place at the port of discharge itself or a nearby location. It can be executed either by the carrier through road or rail modes (Carrier Haulage) or by the merchant using road or rail modes (Merchant Haulage).

Following the container's discharge from the ship, various activities unfold in the containerized shipment during on-carriage, contributing to the seamless continuation of the logistics process.
